Feng Shui (also known as Kanyu), as an ancient discipline of Eastern civilization, is a scientific method under Eastern philosophy that guides humans to live in harmony with the natural environment. Kanyu can be divided into two aspects: Heaven and Earth. Heaven refers to the movements and patterns of the sun, moon, stars, and planets, which radiate powerful magnetic energy affecting all things and living beings on Earth. Earth refers to the mountains, rivers, terrain, and features on the planet, which carry the energy of the cosmos and also possess magnetic and energetic properties. Since ancient times, Chinese ancestors did not have scientific instruments to measure these magnetic fields or energies, so they used the visible elements of Water, Wood, Fire, Metal, and Earth as abstract representations, differentiating their properties with Yin and Yang, a system that is still used today.
Everything on Earth is influenced by the forces of Heaven and Earth, or the greater magnetic field. All living beings go through birth, aging, illness, and death; all things have a beginning, a development, and an end, repeating in cycles. Due to differences in time, space, and location, the magnetic influences that each person receives, and their interaction with their personal energy field, are unique, resulting in differences in individual destinies.
Before the Tang Dynasty (prior to 880 AD), this knowledge was kept secret and practiced within the Chinese court and among the scholar-officials. After Huang Chao broke into the Tang capital of Chang’an, Yang Jun Song, the court’s Zi Jing Guang Lu Da Fu (a high-ranking official), brought secret texts to the common people and began teaching them, spreading Feng Shui to benefit the general populace.
